How to create a successful product in a Hackathon:

Here are some pointers to get you going:

1) Design a product/tool that you would buy/use yourself

For most people, the easiest way to solve a problem is by coming up with a solution that is simple and effective. For instance, if you have a friend having difficulty finding a solution to their problem, can you come up with an innovative solution that can be used instead of an outdated one? Having a clear end-user perspective is very important in developing a product. It allows you to create a product that others will use.

2) Understand your market

The key to creating a successful product has the right product-market fit. Having the right product will allow you to build a loyal following. Having the right understanding of your target market will allow you to make a product that people will use.

3) Validate your idea(s) & concepts

A hackathon is a great venue to test and validate your ideas. Gather feedback from multiple people, such as your teammates, mentors, and companies, to see if your product could solve their problem. Having the right feedback will allow you to know that your idea is on track.

4) Don’t be frightened to try/commit to an idea

If you are not 100% confident in the outcome of your idea, try and build a simple prototypee. Even if you are not 100% sure that it will turn out great, don’t be afraid to give it a try. You might even be working on a that is worth a billion dollars.

5) Focus on building an MVP

A good MVP is also important to ensure that you have a well-thought-out value proposition. Before you start working on a project/idea, you must identify your product’s various limitations and opportunities. Having a well-defined set of requirements and components will allow you to build a working and effective prototype. (We go into more details about an MVP in its own Hackathon)

6) Take short breaks

One of the most critical factors you need to consider when it comes to winning a hackathon is the quality of the MVP. A well-defined set of components will allow you to build a working prototype. A short break is also beneficial as it will enable you to keep track of the project’s progress. One of the essential factors you can consider when developing a successful project is taking a break. This will allow you to keep track of the progress of the project and provide you with an update on the status of the team. It can also help you develop a new idea that could win the competition.

7) Invest time in the presentation

One of the most critical factors you can consider when developing a successful project is preparing a good presentation. Before you start working on your presentation, make sure that you have a good idea of what you’re going to talk about. In addition to the main idea, you should also highlight the various features of your product. Also, ensure you’re prepared to answer any questions the judges might have.
